Land Acknowledgement

Monday Girl Ltd. acknowledges that our work takes place on traditional Indigenous territory across what is now called Toronto (also known as Tkaronto, meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing).

We acknowledge that the land we operate from is the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

We acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit and is also governed by The Dish with One Spoon Wampum treaty, committing to the care and sharing of the land and its resources.

We recognize the immense damage done to Indigenous communities by historical and ongoing colonial practices, discriminatory policies and institutions.

We understand that while land acknowledgment is critical, we are mindful of our responsibility as an organization, and as individuals, in pushing for real accountability and transformative change, including implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
